Confronting Your Inner Trump

In the spirit of shedding political correctness many of us witnessed the Republican candidates for the presidency bash Muslims for two plus hours last night on the CNN debate. We have all been watching the spectacle of Donald Trump as he further aligned the overall tone of the Republican party with that of Nazis during Hitler’s rule. Day in and day out Mr. Trump makes comments that would typically be the end of anyone’s political career, but somehow they help him climb the ladder to the top. Let’s plug our noses as we look at a few of his statements.

On Mexicans:

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they’re telling us what we’re getting.”

Regarding Women:

“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her… wherever.”

On Admitting He Is Wrong:

“I think apologizing’s a great thing, but you have to be wrong. I will absolutely apologize, sometime in the hopefully distant future, if I’m ever wrong.”

On Killing the Families of Suspected “Terrorists”:

"I'd knock the hell out of ISIS... you have to take out their families."

And of course, On Muslims:

“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”

With all of these outlandish comments, how is he still on top? Well, I have a simple theory on that; Trump is actually an amazing spiritual case study, one that we can all learn from.

Throughout the Qur’an God describes to us the essential need for each of us to take on spiritual exercises to clean the muck we have on our hearts. If we neglect to do so, our spiritual health starts to go down the tubes while falling into an abyss of darkness. We then see the world around us from the perspective of the sicknesses within us and we start to say and do really dumb things. Like, really really dumb things (see statements above). You know the feeling when someone cuts you off on the highway and you have that initial thought of anger, and wanting to get back at them right away? Well it’s kind of like operating from that framework 24/7. There are no checks and balances. This is where the spirit is stuck in a state that God refers to as “Commanding Towards Evil”. Some have even called it the “Satanic Soul” but I’m calling it the “Inner Trump” where we will say and do anything to meet the crazy objectives we have. This is the paradigm that Donald Trump has been operating from, and unfortunately his message is resonating with lots of people because they happen to be stuck in the same place so his message sounds good.
